JaM Easy Peasy Comfort Bag

Another Meme! Yay! I'm up for the challenge.
You'll find this one over at Jody Pearl's REinventing Fashion by DEconstructing it. Great name for a blog hey?
This weeks meme is

Challenge #1 - for those who don't sew or have limited time.
Show us your favourite Bag
as in Tote style bag not crotchity old person style bag.

Challenge #2 - for the die hard sewing thrill seekers who always have time for another project
your challenge is to make the
 Easy-Peasy Comfort Bag
created with jeans & a mens tie.

So I've opted for the second and made my own from....

a skirt, sorry Jody! I didn't have a pair of jeans and hadn't planned to go out anywhere today, so figured it would be ok to use what I had on hand.
I'd bought this skirt quite a while ago with this same idea in mind but had never gotten around to doing it! As there were no legs to use for the bag I just cut the skirt in half and used the top.
I have a lovely idea in mind for another bag using the rest of the skirt. It has a sort of cut out to the hem and I thought a nice piece of lace or lacey doiley would look nice as an insert.

There was no pocket to use on the inside so I used the bottom of the leg of another pair of jeans that I used for another project, and added a small yellow crocheted motif to embellish the pocket a tad.

And as my husband has no ties, unused or otherwise, I used a large part of an old scarf, cut out of the middle of it. Then I tied double knots in each end.

These photos don't show it all very well, but to the front of the bag I added a sweet simply embroidered round cotton doiley, a couple of small coloured crocheted motifs and a couple of vintage machine embroidered rose motifs.
I also sewed a small length of pink plaited cording to the outside of the back that folds over the jean button on the front.

Not the best or prettiest example of my altered couture/bags, but it was great fun to just drop everything and do something on the spur of the moment. Just quick and easy peasy without over thinking it all, which I've prone to do waaaay too much!! Very proud of myself I am!
So if you're interested in joining in or following Jody's tutorial for the easy peasy tote bag or in just seeing what the participants have come up with, pop over to Jody's for squizz!

  4. Just go with the flow, love it! I like the scarf concept too, it's like a tie but for women right? ;)
