I'm trying!

Thought you might like to see what steps I'm taking to help improve the odds in my garden for any vegies I want to plant, seeing as I've made such a botch job of the lot I planted a few weeks ago.
Very sad indeed! But there is hope yet!

This is an "indoor" composting bucket called a Bokashi Bucket which I bought some years back. My first attempt wasn't very successful way back then(my own fault) and I've now decided to drag it out again to see if I can do a better job of it!
I say "indoor" because 'This unique recycling system uses bokashi to ferment food waste inside a sealed container. This means there's no rodents, no insects, no spoiling, and NO ODOUR. The end result is a pickled mass of food waste, which, when placed in a garden, break down into rich humus within a matter of days, releasing nutrients, microbes and structure to the soil.'
Bokashi is Japanese for 'fermented organic matter, and it's made from crushed grain (usually barley, wheat and rice mixture) fermented with beneficial microbes and molasses.
The little tap in the bottom allows me to pour off any liquid that is produced during the process. If I can't wait for it all to finish I can also just bury the food scraps in the garden, and it will happily break down in the soil, creating lovely conditions for plants to grow in, because it has already started the breakdown process and still has the microbes swimming around in it!

This is what it looks like after a batch of scraps and the 'stuff' are thrown into the bucket.
Not a pretty sight I know, but oh my the vegies are going to love it!!

Ciao for now!
