Cages & Cakes!

It was Laura's birthday a couple of days ago and I decided to make her this little birdcage for a pressie, then sprung it on her while out for coffee with Joolz and Michele.
It's made from heavy and fine gauge wire with a lot of wrapping and twisting involved! I also threaded on some beads here and there as I went. I did enjoy making this one!
I just couldn't work out the best background to get an optimum pic of the cage. This really doesn't do it justice. But if you enlarge the photo it does look better.
All that's needed now is for Laura to make a little bird to sit on the perch. :)

These were so yummy!!!

I tried a recipe for Chocolate Mousse Cupcakes that I found on Cathie's blog, m.e.
Oh my! Have to tell you they were (cos of course they were all eaten quick smart!!) the best cake to come out of my oven probably ever!! lol. This pic is of my cakes, not Cathie's. Hers look much better! I couldn't get my cream to whip for some unknown reason, and when it finally separated I just mixed it and the melted choc together and used that for the icing. Couldn't waste it now, could I? and it still tasted GOOD!!
Because I tend to substitute some of the ingredients in recipes for healthier alternatives, my results can often turn out much heavier than the original recipe intended! (e.g. wholegrain flour, rapadura sugar etc)
I still did all that with this one, but for some reason the cake was beautifully "spongey" and not at all heavy as per usual!
I didn't have any sour cream or buttermilk at the time so just used plain yoghurt instead (runnier for the buttermilk bit and just the yoghurt for the sour cream).
I think my cupcake papers must be bigger than Cathie's too, cos she got a lot more cakes than I did.
I'll definitely be making many more of these. Thanks for the fabulous recipe Cathie! Love, love & love it! :)
