Bit sad here at the mo.

Well, probably more than a bit, really.
Remember Puss and Kit, the mother and daughter stray/feral cats that we were feeding? From a previous posting? Puss managed to get pregnant before we felt we could handle her enough to have her desexed, and the result was these two little bits. They were born on 7th September, and these pics were taken about a month ago. They are the sweetest little terrors on four legs!

Yesterday we handed them over to an animal group that helps to rescue and re-home stray and unwanted cats, Best Friends Rescue. At the same time, we left Puss and Kit at a vet arranged by this group, to be desexed. So when poor Puss woke up she was not only probably sore, and groggy, but had no kitties. I'm not coping too well with it all, but realise that it's more of a human thing. More about my own issues with separation and abandonment. I'm pretty sure she will get over it quicker than I.

We always knew we wouldn't have them for very long, and we will continue to foster Puss until/if they manage to find a home for her. Because of the new council laws, we can only have two cats, so will keep only Kit(as well as our old cat).

It's saddest because she is now calling for them off and on, and also cos there are no kitten antics to sit and watch and laugh at. We are all missing them so much already!

We've now come to see what an amazing job these animal groups do. Their dedication to helping these unwanted animals, that we as a society have created, is nothing short of amazing. The way they give of their time and their homes is so selfless.

They are "a non-profit registered charity that saves and rehomes abandoned and unwanted dogs and cats in Brisbane on the Gold Coast and surrounding areas in Queensland Australia .. most of our animals are saved from death row in Council Pounds while others have been surrendered to us .. we are 100% No-Kill and as we do not yet have a shelter our animals live with foster carers until the perfect home is found .. this service runs successfully because of our dedicated wonderful foster carers .. volunteers and supporters."

So please, if you're interested in giving a home to one of these animals, giving a donation of any kind, or even in becoming a foster carer, then contact Best Friends Rescue! They really can do with all the help we can give them. I have their button in the right hand column or you can click on their link that is in this posting, just above here.

  1. Oh Pam, this is such a sad time and as you say we probably feel it more than they do, but of course we don't know...
I know what you mean about missing them... Over the past few years we've had a litter of kittens and a litter of puppies... We found them all homes but missed them terribly.
Take care and hugs to you!

  4. Pam, of course you miss them.........you saw them come into the world...but just think if you hadnt looked after Puss in the first place she wouldnt have had her little babies....goodness knows what would have happened to her...Those kitties will go to a home that will love them, I know my children would love a kittie, so I bet a family with children will adopt them and love them....be sad for a little while, but not toooo long...xxxx

  6. Oh Pam, I feel for you. that is so sad but hopefully it will all have a happy ending and they will find a loving home. A close friend adopted a cat recently "Jasper" and as I am closest to her in visiting distance i am now his aunt and do feeding duty when she is away. They are such wonderful animals and give so much love. Will be thinking of you, cheers Katherine
