Vintage Playtime!

I've been managing to find the time to play with mixed media. My fav style being Vintage, and I found an article in Somerset Studio that indulged me in this. It included work by Nelda Ream Jinkerson in the way of bookmarks. I'm definitely going to have to make some more, and this time I think I'll make them a little more sturdy and durable by having them laminated or similar. Just love how they came up.

I have used prints of images from a vintage Home Journal in the sewing/pattern section, then finished them with old buttons, ribbon, beads, and I've even used the clip from a really old suspender for stockings. :)

Still on the subject of vintage and old, I've tried my hand at trying to make a soft toy look old and pre-loved. If you've ever seen the work of Wendy Meagher from Whendi's Bears, then you'll know what I'm trying to convey. I just love the look of her critters and this greatly influenced me as I set out to design my own pattern for a pink chenille elephant (Ellyfont in Wendy's world).

I ended up with two of the little pink dears. Princess Elly & Master Elifant. I didn't achieve the very lovely vintage-ness that Wendy does (not that I wanted them to look just like hers), but I think they are very cute in their own sweet way. Photos on this blog or my web site never quite seem show the "grubby" look I try to achieve with Parisian Essence or tea or coffee on any of my projects.

I'll persevere, and one day I'll get there. :)

I usually have a pile by my bed and just when I take them all upstairs to the bookshelves, I need them all downstairs again! Good exercise though...lol

  9. Thanks Cathy. Unfortunately I can't take credit for the suspender idea. The creator of the idea used one with one of her bookmarks. But still it was a stroke of genius, I agree! :)
and the kitties!! They are doing very well! lol. Made themselves totally at home I can tell you.
